well my dilemma continues ive settle for the boardman but now which one...the hybrid pro or the hybrid team? im all set up with the cycle to work scheme so...ideas please or suggestions.....

Whichever you want to spend the money on dude, I mean they're in the same range so one will be cheaper than the other, so it just depends on your budget!

Boardmans are great for the money. My partner has the fi hybrid. Disc brake stopping is responsive and effective.

Beware of two things: gear ratios don't give the molly-coddling low ratios you seen on typical hybrids in LBS (so be prepared to swap the rear cassette) and frame geometry is oriented towards a 'sporting' rider position, so be careful when choosing frame size/be prepared to swap to a shorter stem. Depending on the store, Halfords' sales staff may not provide much useful help in choosing the right size (but some LBS are no better) and they only let the prospective purchaser ride the bike in the bike department.

As for model choice, lighter/more expensive parts is all about bling. Once you spend more than around £400 on a bike (or £300 at Decathlon), the level of kit will be more than adequate in normal use. For most of us, any weight savings achieved by higher spec kit could be achieved at less cost by losing a few centimetres off the waist measurement!

Weird is the word..halfords have offered me a limit of £500 pounds,seeing that ive got to pay for the bike upfront first thro the c2w scheme, why would they only offer me a £500 limit..me thinks a phone call to halfords and a big fook off is the agenda for thursday morning..

Got my boardman team last friday had a good 1.5 hours ride,set up by halfords is correct so far,lovely smooth bike,need to get used to the handlebar grips..got home soaking wet three with the rain..sunday morning out again this time soaking wet thro with sweat,a tip from the top dont go out with a hangover..

Right tinkering time,FSA K-Force Light Nano XC Flat Bar and a set of sram rivals to upgrade my boardman team,its not a waste of money as peeps my think.
the parts im taking off will be finishing off a bike i obtained for £40 quid which is a quality frame,wheels and really not much else..
I just love to tinker and sometimes spoil a good product...lol

GT Tachyon, good spec for the money, flatbar road bike, no discs, but the Tachyon 1 comes with swisstops pads, have been commuting on one for the last year, only mod was to junk the stock tyres, replaced with conti's and fit mudguards

that said i was looking at the Charge Filter Apex 2012, wiggle have it with 40% off, quite tempted! all i need to do now is explain to the other half why i need another bike.
change the tyres and fit mudguards would make quite a good hack

Have a look a the Cube models, especially the Cross Pro and Tonopah

I have a Cube sl cross pro. I got it in March after my Scott sub 30 hybrid was stolen. I paid £650 for it and I cannot believe the difference between the two! The cube is head and shoulders above the Scott I had and they were a similar price (the insurance company wanted to replace the scott with the same bike but I did a deal for the cube). I have fitted bar ends to the Cube and that makes it a bit more comfortable on longer journeys. Done a couple of thousand miles on it now and have had no problems at all, not even had to adjust the gears or brake cables yet.
