Well, thanks for the advice, Took a trip to the Specialized Concept store in Birmingham and fell in love with the cross trail disc ticked all my boxes for now! cant wait to pick it up this Tuesday and go for a proper ride!!

Awesome dude, you will love the Crosstrail (Giant Roam is just Giants take on that bike) you will love the 'go anywhere fast and comfortably' ethos of these types of sporty hybrids!

I'd recommend a Specialised Sirrus Elite. You don't need disc brakes or suspension forks for what you have planned - better to keep the weight down (carbon forkes on the Elite) and keep the value in other components and not the disc brakes. I started on a hybrid 5 years ago - bought MTB and road bike since buy hybrid still my favourite ;-)
