Been into a shop today and spoke to a really knowledgeable sales guy.

He reckons that as I intend to bike 90% on trails a mtb such as the new Specialized 650B would be ideal but as a newbie I would like your opinions.

If you are talking full off-road such as trail centres, then I'd agree with him. If you are thinking cycleways, towpaths and light off-road, then either would be fine. IMO of course.
