When cycling up park lane i saw 5 or 6 cyclists being talked to by coppers, some on bikes some not.
Not sure if they were being talked to about lights - it was perfectly light so not required, Or if it was about them cycling on non-cycle paths.

Although one of the last was on stretch of pavement that is shared cycle path and peds despite the lack of markings but it does lead to a toucan crossing going over to marble arch.

Anyone see, know of whats going on or been stopped by the boys in blue in london recently?

I think cycling on non-cycle paths. Tiger was pulled over and ticketed apparently, but they decided not to continue the prosecution.

The sin of all sins, cycled to the top of Hyde Park using lovers walk.. went to go to the crossing at marble arch (normally i would cycle up park lane but traffic was busy today so decieded against it) when exiting the park you go onto the pavement for a few meters to get to the toucan crossing. low and behold the coppers where there (not at that position yesterday) and stopped me. got a £30 ticket for cycling on the pavement and have the option to go to a 20minish education event about lorrys and there visibility. This kinda ticked me off. as it's during my work hours and it's a pain to get to and it's unreleated to my offence. I admit i was in the wrong and it's not something i do often but at least make the educational course related!

I think a letter will be heading it's way to a few people about this.

There is also no dismount signs when exiting the park...

Whilst I understand your frustration, I'd leave this bit out if you do write a letter, unless you have dismount signs when you approach your front door or your office.

Cycling on the pavement is wrong, you knew that, you even posted about it yesterday and you got caught.

Err no - read Gaz's post again. I'd have been caught too - it's about a metre of pavement inbetween a big signed cyclepath and a big toucan crossing. I'd no idea you can't cycle on that.

BM, I don't know the location well enough to argue specifics, and I'd missed that it was a toucan.

How is a cyclist meant to get to the toucan crossing if there is no cycle path on the pavement then?

The bit i posted on yesterday was about a different section of pavement. what i believed i was cycling on was a shared pedestrian and cycle path. the gate i came out of is about 3-4 meters away from the sign and i though that this ment i could cycle on this stretch of pavement legaly as there are no aparent pavement markings to state where this should start.

From what the office told me, the shared cycle path starts at that sign and not before, in which case i was breaking the law and hold my hand up to that.

Can anyone confirm with a link to a source that this sign
1121763799.47483675.phpuvJ7AU.jpg
means the shared cycle path is from here onwards.. the highway code and everything else i have read doesn't state that. nor does it state anything else relating to that either lol

It's one of those ones where the 'cycle lane' on the road goes onto the pavement just before the lights, but it's so not visible from the road and hardly anyone cycles up park lane.

There's a discussion going on in Fixed Gear and Single Speed about this(not sure if the link works above, but that's the website anyhow).

I'm going through Hyde Park tonight so shall be really cautious about which bits I ride over. Seems ridiculous to create cycle routes which don't join up then deploy police resources in this way when there is real crime and dangerous drivers actually killing people out there. Probably around Marble Arch:angry:

It's really difficult to get across Wellington Arch too with all the traffic lights if following the cycle route. From the cycle lane alongside Constitution Hill through the Arch and into Hyde Park there are 4 lights all timed to be red when approaching them. Only some really fast riders hammering through the Arch can get across in one go. On coming out of the park back around to Constitution Hill I often ride on the road as I hate all that stopping for really long traffic prioritised phases of the gyratory - or is it a motorway?;)

I'm writing a letter to various people saying that this is just taking advantage of poor planing and forcing cyclists that want to use that toucan crossing to get to marble arch to dismount or go a completely different route.

It's a pity a journalist or columnist who is pro-cycling hasn't got stopped. This is a monumentally stupid cycle lane, being enforced so that, it seems, they have a captive audience for their cycling safety course in the week.

Write to Boris, we are supposed to be working towards being a cycle city of "excellence" and enforcing idiotic cycle paths in this way isn't speeding us towards this excellence.

Of course, pavement cycling shouldn't be allowed, but this is taking advantage of poor provision and lack of notices, and when yet another cyclist today has been killed by a lorry in London, you would think cycle safety priorities should lie somewhere else.
