I actually got blown off the bike this morning!!!

There's a particularly windy bit near our office - sort of like a wind tunnel through some tall buildings and this morning as I was coming round the corner a really really strong gust of wind caught me and literally blew me into the kerb!!!

I could feel myself going and managed to sort of put a foot out to stop myself and hopped/jumped off the bike whilst still sort of falling (must have looked sooooo coool!!!).

Ten years of commuiting in all weathers and this is the first time ever that I've actually been completely blown off!!!

Just felt the need to share really!!!

Most of my commute isn't too bad as it's relatively open, with low rise buildings. Going into the city centre can be a bit hairy at times though with the tall flat sided buildings.

I had to get off and walk in places last night I thought I was going to be off'd. I was being blown across the road.
On a fairly open Fen country road cars whizzing by at 60mph+. So I stopped every time a car over took....just in case, luckily most people over took on the other side of the road.
Bloody hell it was hard work cycling. I hope it calms down for later.

I got blown about a fair bit this morning too.
Didn't come off, but I had to keep well away from the kerb to avoid being blown into it on a few occasions.

Why is it that the wind never seems to be in my favour when i'm cycling uphill? It is always in my face.
One hill this morning, it felt like I was trying to cycle up a muddy field!
Am I just unlucky?

I was cycling down Tooley Street (next to London Bridge) yesterday evening and the wind was blowing me into the middle of the road. It was unnerving. Not looking forward to cycling home tomorrow night

Must admit, it was windy this morning... Seemed like no matter what direction I cycled in, the wind was always in my face.

8 1/2 miles took me 10 minutes longer. usually manage 32 down my fave hill, managed 16 and pedalling at that. dogding broken trees and bin bags had comedic value. I hope it is still windy at 6 as I have the hilly bit on the way back with the wind

And then the wind drops and you get a headwind that's your cycling speed !

Only once have I been blown over whilst on my bike, i was trackstanding outside selfridges in oxford street at a set of traffic lights. A massive gust of wind hit me side on and pushed me slightly to one side. the wind went off me but suddenly came back and hit me again. At that point i lost it and started to fall to my right. Luckily a bus was right next to me and i was able to put my hand on it and not fall over.

Today though i was on my carbon bike, and because of the lack of weight on frame, it just gets pushed around by the wind so much. You can often see where the wind is going to blow from (side roads) and it's just a matter of shifting your weight to avoid being blown over.

That reminds me of when I first got clipless pedals - I had to stop suddenly, but instead of going over sideways, I somehow managed to leap over the handlebars with the bike already at an odd angle and land on my feet with the bike behind me.

Still don't quite know how I managed it, but I did!
