I am an idiot who deserves to have his bike stolen

since i got my new car in october i have left the keys dangling in my front door lock 3 times!!! For at least 2 hours each time. Never ever did it before! Thankfully my doorstep is pitch black coz its street level with the car parked 3 feet away. Now i have a new thing to check a million times along with all my other OCD checks before i go to bed.

sometimes i think when you leave your door wide open, would be burglars think someone is in and just has the door open.

I have been known to fail to even close the front door on occasions... went away on the Friday night, came home in the early hours of Monday morning to find the front door wide open (shed keys hanging by the front door with 2 * £1,500 worth of new mountain bikes in it) and my only thoughts were along the lines of how many pheasants had been into the house whilst we were away... they don't half make a mess of your house

Well after deciding last night that the paintbrushes could wait until the morning to be put away, it seems I left the shed door WIDE OPEN all night. Both the outer door and the inner security gate.

I thank the little baby Jesus and all his minions that the bikes were still in there this morning when Wife noticed.

I quite regularly leave the house and the garage is left open, and the door is seldom locked. Maybe I just live in a part of the country where there are fewer instances of theft and where people feel less inclined to think ill of everyone else.

Not the first to do it, I'm sure, but a friend of mine had a car-full of jeering children as he tried to round up the cat so that they could get off for the week. "Sod it" he decided, then set his newly purchased cat flap to In Only - "Effing cat will come in when it's hungry."

I'd rather not think ill of people, but my neighbour had his bike nicked from the shed the day he moved in and we do sometimes find the bins have been moved- clearly by somebody trying to gain access through a window.

They would. http://velosurance.com had no problems with my quote, I had same circumstances as you pretty much. The idea is that it is totally up to you to lock your door or not. Depending on a door , it just may add 1-2 minutes for bike thieves to crack it open. In my neighborhood we had 2 or 3 bikes stolen last year from appartments. All doors were locked. But, of course I would keep all doors open, and still lock my bike even if it is inside.
