I *loved* this when I was a sprog. Haven't had it for years, but I may have to make some. And custard. Not some namby-pamby creme anglaise rubbish, proper, thick, bright yellow Birds custard. OMFG yes yes oh god yes!

I was once on holiday in Keswick with my now-ex and indulged in a few strong local ales on an empty stomach - they went straight to my head! We'd had our main course and I'd promised to buy her a nice dessert. She really liked the look of the sticky toffee pudding so I called the waiter over, and announced in a big booming voice which silenced the whole room: "My girlfriend fancies a big piece of Stiffee... ". In my horror, I stopped in mid-sentence. I tried again repeatedly, but I had a mental block and it kept coming out the wrong way...
