I beat a colleague home, they went on the Guided Bus Way !

Wednesday, I left work at 17:12, from Cambridge to my home town of St Ives. Its a fifteen mile run each way.

Anyway got to St Ives at a road called Harrison Way (I reached this point at 5:57 or there about) where the GBW crosses into town. I'm waiting at the crossing, and my colleague walked up to the lights. She could not believe it was me, and she had left at 5 ish as well !

A right result for pedal power !

Woo!:bicycle: And those buses really fly along the "rails"!

That guided bus really is insane. It''s on a segregated roadway as it crosses the howling emptiness of the Fens, then gets onto the nicely jammed-up roads as soon as it's in Cambridge. It would have been so much cheaper to reopen the train line.
And they're building another between Luton and Dunstable...:banghead:

Good time Kevin !

How long would that take in the car ? ... With delays on the A14 then again by the lights at the Harrison Rd crossing? I see from the GB-blog that drivers are writing into the Hunts Post over the queues.

If only somebody had said that before they built the thing ! ;-)

Last time I went by car it took me 15 mins,
but the lights at Harrison Way are a motorists night mare at the moment, apparently St Ives gets gridlocked now

....If another person says St Ives in Dorset....(or Australia etc etc) Sheesh.

The lights on Harrison way really do take a long time to go to green for cycles and peds, even when cars have stopped.
I did see a cyclist go though the "back to road/tarmac/car trap, but officially just for buses??" lights crossing, which changed for him instantly(as they do for buses) and only held up the motorist/main road users for seconds, I was on the Toucan crossing and it took ages to stop cars and once stopped there was a big gap between the red to green cycle/ped, allowing me to go. I actually felt bad for the motorists. Oh my God, I'm holding up another motorist!!!

Just read in the local rag that the local council is going to charge those who use the park and ride but prefer to walk or cycle which is free instead of taking the bus for which a ticket is required. The car parks are currently free.

Cranky, I'm sure that's just for the Cambridge one, people were parking there for free and not using the route at all. I'd be surprised if many people in St.Ives use it to just do there shopping, it involves walking. There are plenty of double yellow lines, no entry streets, cycle lanes, pavements that are closer and more convenient and no risk of a ticket. Bah Humbug.
I don't think you have to worry about driving to the St.Ives P&R, parking up and cycling just yet.(there is always the Rec centre car park for free, short cycle ride away)
