I Bloody Hate Freshers' Week

what was with all the crud on the roads Monday morning? I was away Sunday night - was it combined freshers pre-uni party and the derby crowds? never seen the streets that dirty and full of glass!

And my pet hate is all the students standing in my cycle lane completely oblivious to the world!

I used to have a job that entailed having to dance to that while dressed as a furry dolphin. Really.

A statement that is useless without pictures. ;)

Whenever I go to MRI, I deliberately set aside plenty of "looking at the girls" time for cruising up and down Oxford Road during term time. It's a wonder I haven't crashed afore now. Mind you, I'm going that slow, there'd be no damage anyway!

I have noticed it has been quieter this year, probably because the Bank of Mummy&Daddy have suffered a credit crunch...

That wasn't me! Seriously I spent ages many Earth minutes searching for pictures online and there aren't any. If anyone has kids and took them to a Bass owned pub in the mid-90s (94-95 would do it I reckon) with kiddy playbarn attached, it was one of them that I plied my shameful trade in...:ohmy:

That picture is class! I hope that dolphin was line caught though, cos she certainly wasn't!

I drove down curry mile towards Hathersage Road tonight. That whole area (from Dids > city centre) seems carnage.

There are cycle lanes everywhere, but it was only my cycling experience that meant I was thinking of them at junctions.

Whats the cycle lane after the Queen of Hearts in Fallowfield about??

It seems to be raised from the road (but not to the pavement). Theres no way you could join it mid length on a road bike and it would be carnage if you came of it.

Nasty piece of work aimed at trundlers only.

It's not that bad, as it goes - unnecessary, but not actively harmful unless some dolt parks at the far end (you can't always see whether they have or not in heavy traffic). Those Rusholme door zone ones are worse, I think.

The music is currently being drowned out by Black Sabbath. Then the Pixies.

Ohh, bit of Pixies!! Gives man points.

I haven't been bothered to go to any of the freshers stuff this year. Only thing I was going to, turned out to be on Monday night and not later in the week like it usually is (hypnotist)....but like hell I was queing up for 5 hours (no joke) for a ticket to see something.

I'm not a fresher though, so it's not like it's a big deal

The other night there was obviously a house party going on, but I was blissfully sleeping through it, until a neighbour decided to give a time check, and woke me up yelling "it's half three in the morning!!!"

Though, starting back at UNI has it's advantages...I have about 5 free pizza vouchers ...was going to claim one last night but the place had blooming shut 20 minutes before hand (I'd just been for a night bike ride so kinda fancied a slice).

They're a bit special, aren't they?

Heard them first on John Peel many, many years ago, and have been a fan (regardless of how my tastes have changed) ever since. Whatever else I find myself listening to at the time, I can always go for another spin of Doolittle or Surfer Rosa.

My attitude towards the various events has mellowed a bit since yesterday, as my LBS tell me they're doing *very* well out of it at the moment (they're right opposite a fair number of the promotional stands and are thus getting a lot of passing trade), which is a good thing.
