Starting next Wednesday I'll be running the four week 'Basic Cycle Maintenance & Repair' evening course at Eastleigh College.
I appreciate they might require one, but I couldn't understand the purpose for evening classes, where our chap was unlikely to have unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable people.
Just because they require one, doesn't mean there's any logic behind it.
A few years ago, we won a HMG-funded contract to do with energy use in homes. It involved making a survey of the buildings, reading meters, crawling around in lofts, and going through a brief questionnaire with the householders. At one of the first meetings with HMG's representatives' it was suggested that we should have CRB checks to ensure that any children in the homes would be safe. We pointed out that the opportunities for any inappropriate behaviour would be a tad limited given the nature of the work.It happens like that the public sector![]()
