Probably out your budget this Plax but if you're looking for that kind of all rounder this one ticks many boxes for me including dynamo hub and lights.

I've seen something similar on CRC;

I really like it apart from the gearing looks too low again at 44-32-22
I really like my 48-38-28 front chain rings that are on the GT and Galaxy. I suspect my Carrera has similar to the Corratec (can't find out from Halfords what the front chainrings are).

Blimey! Looks a bargain that Plax.

With regard to the gearing the front chainrings are only half the story, depends what's on the back to, you'd need to make yourself a gear chart up for each bike and compare it to anything new. If you haven't done it, I'd really recommend it. The tedious bit is counting the teeth if you don't know them.

Having googled both, I prefer the Carrera Vulcan. I don't like the GT Nomad. Besides, it sounds like you'd use it mainly for commuting, so bottle holders don't signify. Having fatter wheels means it can do a bit of multi-surface work. It can be made a bit quicker by changing the tyres to slicks.

The rear is 11-34 I believe which is the same as the GT and Galaxy. It does look like a very nice bike otherwise........

I'm rather partial to my bottle holders. I take a packed lunch into work and use my bike bottle to drink at work throughout the day. I've got into the routine of carrying it on the bike rather than in a bag with my butties. Quirky I know, but I need two to keep me happy :becool:.

Sounds like a decisive reason for keeping the Vulcan, and putting the money received for the Nomad towards the road bike.

I think you should sell them all, and get something like this.
I might be able to keep up with you then.

Ha ha, Just seen your post. You'd still never keep up :thumbsup:.

I'm still seriously tempted with the Corratec bike. It's in my wishlist, I nearly bought it, but I'm being indecisive.

Just an update, I've just put the GT Nomad on ebay so that should hopefully go to a new home at a reasonable price.
I've got a second hand rigid fork for the Carrera Vulcan, but I might have to take that to the LBS to sort out as I'm having trouble getting the lower race crown off the old forks.
This should free up space for a new bike. Idea being that the Carrera can be the "pub" bike / winter hack. Then the tourer for long distance rides, CTC & shopping trips etc. Which leaves a decision about what kind of bike my 3rd is going to be. I was toying with the idea of a road bike, pretty keen on the Boardmans. I might even eventually get rid of the Carrera and get that Corratec bike if the price is still right and the rigid forks don't go to plan.
