Well it had to happen as part of my bicycle recycling business I picked up 5 bikes and amongst them was a Puch Prinz 12 speed road bike, bent front forks and looking the worst for wear I put some air in the tyres and took it down the road. Instant love at first sight after not riding a racer for over 20 years, I've got to rebuild it for myself lol

I think your business plan may have a flaw. You will end up with loads of lovely bikes but no money

I know an antiquarian bookseller who specialises in an area he cares nothing at all for.

He does very well indeed.

His friends who specialise in areas that cover their own hobby or fascination make far less than he does...

They are often simply unwilling to sell the best stock....

I think therein lies the problem. Selling things that you love must be very hard indeed.

I did expect to be collecting mostly BSO(bike shaped objects) but its amazing how many 'lovely' bikes keep appearing

Here in York, we have Bike Rescue.

From what I heard the other day, they are rolling in bikes - having trouble fitting in collecting all the ones they are offered. There are so many nice ones (just good old, run of the mill nice old bikes and that sort of thing) that they sell BSOs for scrap, it's not worth their time to do them up.

One out of five ain't bad, but you might want to alter the odds if you haven't got an enormous shed!

There lies the problem, I've spent most of my time working with things I loved, no wonder I'm poor  .
It was bad enough when I sold my vintage bike collection, especially the delivery bicycle that I always rode

I clicked through their link to the ebay shop looking for a bargain and.....nothing! I think they have suffered the same fate as the OP and are simply unwilling to sell anything lol

This is part of the reason I seem to own 12 bikes at the moment.

Most were refurbished with the intention of selling them but I don't want to sell them
