Got cheesed off with braking going down hill or if I go fast enough my feet nearly spin me off the bike.
Its been very enjoyable most of the time but time for a change to see how I get on with just the single speed.
Maybe the solution to going faster downhill is to splay my legs out wide but then will have a real problem locating the peddle grips again at that speed

There is a big race in Bristol tomorrow evening for fixies, not that I will enter as it seems just for the 20 something crazy bandit boys

I started with SS and then moved to Fixed. I haven't really been down any big hills, but have reached a cadence of 144 on the small ones I've been on.

I like the Fixed as an alternative bike, but not sure I'd have it as my only bike.

Also been down to a cadence of 27 climbing a 1 in 8 hill which is the steepest uphill I've tried so far.

The Bristol Fixie race sounds fun - where is it?

Fixie Competitions
The competitors must have a suitable fixed wheel bike with at least a front brake. Riders will compete to see who can do the longest track stand. Astonishing feats of cycle prowess will also be demonstrated by the longest skid competition. Special mentions will be made for the most handsome/beautiful fixie and rider as well as the longest track stands and wheelies!

Sounds like the typical shenanigans before/after an alleycat. Is this indeed the race or is there an alleycat on in Bristol soon? Not seen anything publicised, doubt you will ever see me taking part in an alleycat weaving about in between traffic etc it would be suicide with the luck I have!

Looks a laugh - tight little circuit in the middle of Bristol - plenty of cobbles as well if I recall rightly.

I do most of my riding fixed, prefer it to gears. I made the down hills easier by fitting shorter cranks, down to 165's from 170's, made a noticeable difference. One thing I have noticed is that its more difficult to comfortably spin up on a descent in cold weather than warm, even when I've been cycling for several hours and am fully warmed up I'm not as smooth or comfortable in cold weather as I am in warm. Up hill if the revs drop to low I just get of and walk, theres no point continuing when the cadence drops into single figures.
