Update on Dentists.Been on the net.Found a couple in my area.Went to see one and phone the other no room at the Inn.

So back on the net Nhs telephone number.Bingo allocated one in my area.As simple as that.

Got to say superb service.

First app' within six weeks.Amazing.

Thanks to all of you who pointed me in the direction of NHS.

Start saving money,look for a bike. Ha ha.

We were on a waiting list for an NHSdentist for some years. Some new practices seem to have started up recently, so we made it off the top of the list.

My NHS dentist was rubbish. The old bat wanted to pull a tooth out so she gave it a temp filling until the fateful day. However, in the mean time the filling fell out so I went back when she was on holiday. One of the private dentists was locumming and stuck a crown on it. Problem solved, 3 years later no probs. Luck of the draw, I guess.

My wisdom teeth had to be removed under general, in hospital. Hammer and chisel job. But it was last century..

Good job you got the abscess sorted out, up in the attic of the Archaeology department at York Uni, there is a jaw bone of a horse that had an abscess. The gunge ate away at the bone eventually killing the horse. Not very nice I know but that's what can happen if you leave it.

I have a small hole in upper left jaw because of recurring abscess thanks to some dodgy dental work. I have also had problem where a abscess blew up again on another tooth which hit me big time, affected all my joints, sore to touch some swelled up, got worse when it got in to my hands and shoulders, had to wait as they wouldnt touch the tooth while I was in so much agony, when it eased of the Doc's advised I got to the dentist pronto and get the tooth removed, 4 injections later and I could still feel every thing this was down to the infection round the tooth and roots so he had to pull it out while I could feel every thing. Woke next day feeling fit as a fiddle, really any one slightest pain in get to the dentist it was a scary time for me..

Main problem round here is finding an NHS dentist that will take you on.

I'm on the list, but there is a 2 year wait. In the meantime you can only access emergency care when you are in "serious" pain.

Having said that - since the extractions and subsequent draining of the abscess I fell much better.

Still dont like dentists though.

I hated dentists after a similar experience to that of an earlier poster when I was a kid. The dentist was a sadistic monster; his favourite little trick was to yell "SHUT UP !!" and drill you in the gum as punishment if you indicated that there was any pain with the filling he was doing without anaesthetic.

As a result I ended up having months of very expensive work done twice over the years as an adult to sort out the mess I let my teeth get into by avoiding the dentist for most of my life up until that point.

Three years ago after my dentist did a runner, leaving me with a missing front tooth and the rest in a really shoddy state (yes, my luck with bad dentists seemed to continue over the years), I was transferred to a lovely modern practice where all the dentists I've seen since have been fantastic. My teeth are now all sorted (lots of crowns and bridgework) and I go every six months without fear (although I'm always a little sweaty-palmed, given my dental history). What a difference a good dentist makes.

As mentioned recently on some dentistry-related post, it makes all the difference if you can make your appointment for 2.30 (well, if you have a brain like mine it does, anyway).
