More specifically, I hate this one section of the cycle path at a certain time of the day.
More specifically, I hate all of the people coming out of the school at 2:50pm.

Surely when you see a bike coming, you don't stand in a group covering the full length of the cycle path, you'd move to one side, right? Nope, every single person walks wherever they want and are normally complete tools in the process.

I tend to get comments when I ride past, today was no exception. A group of them were standing covering in the cycle path and I had to stop, when there was a gap I started moving (mind you, very slowly - around 6mph?) when someone yelled 'Slow the f**k down or get on the f****ng road you p**ck." :banghead:

Next was just a tiny bit down the path, "The Olympics are already finished mate" - Yes, I know that :tired:

And the final comment, my favourite, was "Oh look, another drugged up cyclist" - Stupid fool gave me a fright and I dropped my needle filled with EPO :cursing:

Perhaps a letter to the school, mentioning the verbal abuse (particularly the swearing)? Most schools probably don't want a bad reputation. If you can be sure the offender was from the school (uniform?) you'll have a better case.

That's the school up the top and then that's the entrance to the cycle path to the right, they all come on that way, it kinda ruins the journey home. Good idea about the letter, I'll give it a shot.

If it's that bad why not use the road

The road's a dual carriageway and I'm not to keen on riding on it at rush hour and my commute home is 99% on the cycle path. I did turn off of the cycle path outside the school and use the main road today though, still, you shouldn't have to do something like that.

Would this happen to be St Benedicts school in Linwood which is right next the cycle path? I've had problems there before too.

It's Castlehead High at the beginning of the cycle path in Paisley.

Been a while since i was down that way, dont think i've ever passed it when school has been coming out. The problem i suspect is that part of cycletrack there is hidden away from the road and houses...makes it great for cycling on normally but not so if there are groups of neds coming out of school!

if they think you're going to fast, why not slow down some more? Or. as Numbnuts suggests, take the road?

I was going very slow while I passed them and it was only when I was clear of them and picking up speed the guy shouted.

I'm not here for tips on my route, just a general rant by the way.

this is one of those scenarios i think we just have to put up with.

It's a busy period for peds, they do tend to 'spill out' regardless. Although I don't know your area, I'd either try an alternative route or maybe kill some time before heading home to let the crowds disperse a tad.

And people blocking the way, often unintentionally, is not confined to cyclepaths. Almost every day at work, it seems I have to duck between people who've stopped to have an important discussion IN A DOORWAY!

Especially the kitchen doorway. Sorry, when I get in from a morning on the round, I need tea and lunch, and no one gets in my way!

There is a bit of a difference between normal pedestrians unintentionally blocking the way and being a bit dozy about what is going on around about them and what i think jazloc experienced.

Dont want to tar all schoolkids with the same brush but there are sometimes small groups who will see a cyclist on their own - or indeed a walker - and not move at all, they then behave in an aggressive manner to intimidate and put on a show for their mates.
