There I was watching an episode of Dads Army I hadn't seen before when the picture starts breaking up again. The reception was alright when it was analogue. Thanks a lot, that was money well spent on having a new aerial fitted. Sometimes, the only channel I can actually get is DaVE, which actually is not so bad, as it transmits the only BBC programmes I actually like (apart from MoTD).

So, I go to listen to The Infinite Monkey Cage on iPlayer to discover none of them are currently available, due to the server being down, I think. I see a load of other interesting looking programmes. None of them available because the time limit has expired - so why does the BBC list them?

Yeh, that's about it, this is due to being in the bottom of a valley with the transmitter the other side of the ridge.

That's odd - the BBC channels are all 'multiplex' PSB1. ITV and Channel 4 are on PSB2 but you should also be getting More 4, E4 and Film 4 on the same multiplex.

We only get those 2 multiplexes here for the same reason that you are limited - being in a steep-sided valley.. We do not quite have line of sight to Emley Moor so we get our signal from a booster station on the hill which only relays PSB1 and PSB2, not the other 4 Freeview multiplexes.

They went to Tonbridge Wells and then retired to concentrate on their letter writing.

It's different for me. Reception is better on cloudy days, or maybe when the wind is blowing those transmission waves in the right direction.

Yes, but weren't those things better than what went before? The interweb is better than ceefax. Sewerage is better than throwing shoot out of your window.

Despite living only about a mile away from a transmitter, a tree-covered ridge in the middle meant that we could only "see" half the multiplexes on Freeview, so we went for Freesat instead. It's only let us down when covered in 6" of snow. Alas Dave isn't available on Freesat...
