I'm getting new tyres for my CX as the ones that are on it are beyond pants.
Looking at the Schwalbe CX tyres as I've liked them on other bikes in the past but met with the choice of:
Perf Active Puncture protection or Kevlar guard
http://nextdaytyres.co.uk/details.aspx/SCHWALBE-CX-COMP-700-ROAD-700/237

The roads around here are as rough as guts and there are a lot of trails to ride. Was thinking of marathon plus tyres but wondering what others think.

I have been plagued by the puncture fairy this year so thought I'd get a little defence in place.
Any advice, gratefully accepted.

You don't get better puncture protection then MPlus. However trade off is that they are a bit weighty and can be hard to fit.

I've ridden dirt trails on my tourer/commuter bike using Marathon Plus tyres, and they handle the dirt and stones really well.

I personally found them really slippery (28mm on a hybrid), wouldn't want to use in wet or muck but others experiences are different

They were also really sluggish on roads! Wouldn't buy again, would prefer the odd puncture

I did have the lbs fit and didn't get a puncture in the few hundred miles I rode on them

If you do want those, spa cycles often have on sale

I don't mind the odd puncture either, but 3 or 4 on every single ride means that the bike (with it's XKings in good condition, replaced rim tape and absolutely nothing wrong with the wheels or tyres, as they've been checked by me, hubster and my LBS) is hanging on the rack and I'm really fed up with spending a fortune on patches and tubes.
I'm not doing MTB type trails, I don't have the bottle any longer.
Thank you for your comment though. I too am really sluggish on roads  I think it's my age and lack of fitness at the mo. The roadie does most of the road work.

A Marathon Plus Tour has the uber puncture protection and a bit more tread than a standard Marathon Plus.

Did you include a set of these? I'd break at least one tyre lever every change until I got park tools (eventually binned the M+ as well )

Oh well, I'm a bit late. I prefer the slightly bouncier M Greenguard to M+ but the Kevlar guard you were looking at is basically cruiser-level protection (Land Cruiser, Road Cruiser, Delta Cruiser) which tends to ride a bit more easily but will puncture much more easily than any Marathons. If you're suffering with the fairy, then some sort of Marathon was probably a good move.

Shame I did not read this earlier: I would have suggested Marathons Originals Greeenguard, a bit lighter than the plus, cheaper, same puncture resistance.
I have tried both, really prefer the originals.
The Land Cruisers are great at absorbing road bumps, but I have not had them enough time to comment about their puncture resistance.
