You are turning them the right way aren't you? Left hand pedal = left hand thread; right hand pedal = right hand thread.

OK, so after trying the boiling water trick, and giving the spanner a good hard whack I nearly rounded off the thing. It seems that without some more specialist equipment I won't be able to shift this problem.

Am I just left with drilling out the spindles or buying new cranks?
