Go fast where it is safe, and slow where it isn't! I am a timid kind of person generally but I regularly hit 50-55 mph on long Yorkshire and Lancashire descents. I'll do 55 mph on a clear, straight downhill, where the gradient is no more than about 5% and the road is dry. On a 15% descent on a twisty, wet, narrow, gravel-strewn road, I'll probably be doing less than 10 mph!
True that... went down a 16% twisty road today at 18mph, scaaaaaaaaared!!! :'(

Try going down Cudham Hill in the wet, it's a 25% and I saw a girl fall off and break her hip. Absolutely sh1tting myself when it's damp there.

I usually get to 40mph on the Leaves Green and Fishponds descents on the A233, without much power from me.

You should take that silly electric motor off, or at least put it back to legal power and speed limitations.

If it's not 24mph average and on the flat then that's ok.

As others have said as long as you reduce the speed in built up/busy sections and are road aware and hazard aware then it's not a problem. Ride within your comfort zone and enjoy it but do it safely and think about other road users.

Though having read another one of your posts I think in health and fitness about weight reduction, maybe try and slow your riding down for that so that you get to work off the calories in an even pace and allow your body to gradually build up the network of muscles and capillaries.

It is fun to blast down the road but make sure you're eating enough for the intensity you're riding at.

hehe i was refering to the uproar surrounding spartacus when people thought he had a hidden motor in his bike , the UCI were even considering x raying bikes just in case .

No offense to the OP , your getting lot more training in than i am lately as i have not had chance for a non commute ride for nearly a month and as usual the family plans something on a sunday morning when they know its my only me time.:gun:
