I have my first job interview in 12 years tomorrow!

Apparently this is a skills based interview - 90 minutes of it - and there will be no formal interview as I did that on the phone. A friend has given me chapter and verse on the role as it's what she does for a living. They are recruiting 60 people apparently.

I would guess that successfully dealing with people over the phone was a huge part of growing and running your current business. Managing people, their expectations, requirements, complaints and complements. All without the direction from a boss, showing self reliance and drive.

During the interview don't make it sound too much like this new job is a 'walk in the park' for you, but it sounds like role you can fill very successfully.

Apologies for the americanism, but 'walk in the park' is one of the ones I like.

The stuff you have to take They want a birth certificate, bank statement and matching card, passport and driving licence (stuffed on both there, no passport and driving licence is still at DVLA being renewed, piccy etc) proof of where I live so my council tax bill has been dug out. I've filled in 5 forms that have had to be printed out and they want hard copy of my CV, which is fair enough I suppose although they have had it emailed to them via the agency, emailed direct and it's on their recruitment section page that is personal to me.

Last time I had an interview they asked for my NI number and any sort of ID I happened to have on my person (bank card at the time) and that was that. They want proof that I am eligible to work in the UK. I thought that the NI number takes care of that but apparently not. Heigh ho, times change.

It's a wonder anyone manages to do this identity fraud lark - it's such a hassle being honest!

If this is a customer service advisor role is this a call centre? If that's the case then employers can be a bit cautious because of the information you have access to so often ask for a lot of ID.

Anyway, Exmouth is a lovely place, great beach with Exeter an easy cycle ride away.

No point in an early night. I've not slept properly for months and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. If I take something, prescribed to help, I wake up like a zombie and can't shift the fug all day.
I'll get by on my usual 5 hours or so

Ok to an extent you can mention this. Not sure of what sector you're in but both of mine (public and IT) seem forgiving of stuff like tiredness etc.

I can tell that you are all gagging for news. Just walked in the door.
Hubster said that he would drive down as I would be knackered after a 5 hour drive. He drove to Cambridge and then felt tired so I drove from Cambridge to Exeter, had interview and the Hubster drove from BT to Friend's house in EX4. Then he drove to just near Portishead and then I drove all the way home. I might as well have just driven down on my tod.

They offered me the job on the spot. Full time hours.
I listened into a long call for 45 minutes and then we had an informal chat. I found out a lot more about the interviewer than he did about me. Nice chap. We chatted about dogs, guitars and he was astonished that I rode 26 miles in an hour and 45 minutes yesterday. He thought that it would take all day to go 'that far'. Bless. I could start on the 14th if I like but maybe mid August would be better, giving me time to move house etc.

I am not sure how I feel now. I'm a bit up and down. Probably just tired.

Congratulations. You'll love the area. I lived down that way for many years, last living in a small village called Bickleigh between Exeter and Tiverton for over 10 years. Bit more hilly than you're used to I expect. Great cycling to be had on Dartmoor and on Woodbury Common to the south of Exeter.
