I apologise, but man made/named diseases are myth........flu or cancer has been around since man walked the earth, the ones we are getting now all seem to be simply childhood stuff that people stick a fancy name on and claim as a new disease.........not good for real diseases or people who really need help.......sorry not helping, and not contributing the way you want me to

Look after him and ignore the silly posts, 99.9% of the CC parish will be thinking about the wee man tonight.

Some folks should refrain from posting when they already been told being sensitive or compassionate isn't a strong point hey DANGERMOUSE!!!!!!!

Those conditions are remedied by telling him to man up.............we all had em when we were kids.....sickness has always been with us, god I was chucking since I was born, so has everyone else...........get used to it...........sorry, it happens

Sometimes it's worth learning when to STFU. You, nor any on here I suspect have any idea of exactly what the poor lad is going through, why just jump in with a predjudice insentitive comment without having some respect for the feelings of others?

Kies.........I did not say anything insensitive, its just my belief on things............none of these ailments were around 20-30 years ago, YES I am compassionate but I do draw the line too, I believe all these so called childhood diseases are imaginary..........same as in the good old days, didn't hurt us did they when we had them.

The point is not what you believe, which is your opinion and may or may not be valid. The point is whether or not it's not wiser and more sensitive to think about how expressing that view, in that manner, may hurt another.

One should also remember that there are a lot more nasty bugs around these days, the age of the antibiotic, than there were 20, 30 or more years ago. Medical knowledge has improved such that the specific ailments can be distinguished much more accurately than 'flu' or 'cold'.

ScotiaLass's wee fella has a medically recognised condition, with a medically-prescribed procedure to be followed in the event of an incident.

GWS, wee man ! :highfive: - and ScotiaLass !!! :hugs:

Do you know how many children die of diarrhea in the developing world? Due to dehydration. Obviously not the same as ScotiaLass's son, but uncontrollable vomiting will eventually have the same effect - if it goes on long enough he needs medical help for rehydration.

This condition has quite probably been around since humans walked the earth. The difference is that a couple of centuries ago in this country (or in many developing countries today) the kid would have died from the first episode, and it would likely have been put down to something they ate, rather than this condition.

One reason there appear to be many new diseases today is that medical science has advanced, and things that would have been lumped together under (say) something like 'dodgy stomach' (yes, I know that's not a medical term) can now be separated out into different conditions with different causes, and each having different ways of treating them (hopefully). There is an element of big pharma hyping some conditions in an attempt to sell more drugs, but to lump everyone who doesn't have flu or cancer into a group with 'childhood stuff with a fancy name on' is crass and stupid.

You also seem to be equating 'childhood' with 'not serious'. The only reason we regard childhood diseases as not serious these days (erroneously in some cases) is because vaccination and medical treatments have vastly reduced the death rate from them. These days it is not the norm for a family to have a child die - it is not very long since losing at least one of your offspring in childhood was the norm.

So - ScotiaLass - hope you can ignore Dangermouse, and hope your lad is doing better.

So arthritis in children (called Still's disease) which was discovered in Victorian times and named after the doctor who discovered it, is man made??? ADHD was also first noted in Victorian times.
Cave men had no medical skills, how could they diagnose and put a name to diseases?

Your argument is isn't an argument, it's your ignorant viewpoint.
And for those of us (and our children) who live with disabling conditions, I can tell you, it's real enough.

My mother always taught me, if you don't have anything constructive or kind to say, don't say anything at all.

Oh and for those interested, my son is still unwell this morning.

Seriously???
My son vomits continuously, putting his kidneys at risk of shutting down, risking rupturing his stomach and oesophagus....which puts him at risk of DEATH and he doesn't need help??
Do you really think the NHS would spend resources and funds on him if he didn't need it?
I was a nurse for over 17 years...I think I know what I'm talking about.

Put so much better than me - but my bias shines through, after all I'm a mother and this is my son.
Thanks for all the good wishes.

It's not true in my experience. It seems to me that such conditions are much more prevalent than when I was of school-age. I do not agree that they are imaginary and I believe that it is a problem that medical science has failed to investigate for some reason.
