I didn't actually realise just how much I spent just getting to work each day with petrol, train fares etc. The problem is I now use this as the perfect excuse to spend lots of money on my cycling! Although at least the money is going on actual physical and useful things rather than the privilege of travelling to work cramped against the other commuters like a refugee!

Like a poster on one of the other threads, I just don't understand how so many people can sit in their cars watching us cyclists all fresh faced and breezing past them and still insist on getting up and doing the same thing the next day. They seem to project that frustration of being stuck in traffic and overtaken onto a hate of cyclists rather than their hate of sitting in traffic queues when there's so obviously the solution skimming right past them!

They are wishing that all the others in the traffic jam will either take the bus or train next time or even cycle so they can have a clear run in their cars without all the other oafs on the road holding them up ........!

If they are me ... they are wishing they lived near enough to work to cycle there. It would be a two hour ride for me

Because we always get the cheapest flights, we often find ourselves getting back at some ungodly hour of the morning, just ready to hit the rush hour as we cross London from, say Gatwick to North of the river. It's always a nightmare, and I find myself looking around at the droids around me in disbelief, thinking 'you do this every day! How can you stand it?'

What car? I've never filled up a car ;)

(Perhaps "when did you last top up your Oyster card" is a better question for me. I use about £20/month on London public transport.)

I once went from February to August on one tank of petrol. Then some little thieving toerag wrote my car off with another (stolen) car that ended up in my front garden.

Just over 1 week ago, shortly before it went in for an MOT and failed.

Still waiting for parts to arrive to sort it out.

I have to say it's both liberating and infuriating at the same time. I cycled - train - cycled to work. This is the first time I've used public transport in about 14 years. Overall it wasn't the horror I was expecting and in fact I enjoyed it to a greater extent. I was able to get a spot on the train for the bike both ways with no problem at all.

Mind you I was incadessant with rage last night when I thought "I'll just nip out a pick up a take out dinner as the wife is out this evening"... before realising no car.

I'm filling my van up at this very moment. So far I have put in 6 chairs, 3 velux windows, a brush-cutter, a table, various assorted hardware and it's still only half full. 2 trees, several plants and food for 3 weeks got to go in yet though.

Last time I filled a car up was just after mid-night on the 10th of Oct & at that time got another one of those 'I think I should move to another country' feelings.

I last filled my car up in Nov 08. About a month before I traded it in. Our car on the other hand was last filled three weeks ago.....
