Well done mate. I felt like that when I completed my first proper ride on the 5th. The funny thing down here is that the oldest roads are always the ones in the best condition and for some reason they usually have less crap on them. Keep on ridin'.

My lurgie continues unabated, my eyes are like piss holes in the snow, my chances of riding are zero, I suspect I will have been collected by the men in white coats carrying a funny jacket before I ride again.

Funny you say that when I drive to work I now avoid main roads the back rounds are so much better.

But it's still cost me 3 tyres and potentially 2 new alloys! lmao

It's the same here. The road from my house into the closest town is terrible. The section towards the curb on the way in is, well I don't really know how to describe it but it's incredibly bumpy and the tarmac is broken. There's actually entire chunks of road (maybe 10 metres at a time) that looks as if a tree root is growing under it as it's all over the place. The back route in is absolutely perfect.

Have you cycled between Whitstable and Faversham along the coastal route? Take a look into the fields/marshes to your left along the Faversham road leading up to the sportsman pub. It is absolutely littered with with empty wine bottles discarded over the fence.

I haven't yet. I did the Crab and Winkle line today and was pleasantly surprised at how well maintained it was (both the trail and the road section). However it was pretty muddy and I came home absolutely caked in the stuff.

Is the coastal route to Faversham via Seasalter or is there actually a cycle route. I only ask because I cycled to Seasalter the other day. I was going to keep going because I heard there was a cyclists pub but I don't think I was on a numbered route.

Crab and Winkle way is a great route, I just wish it was longer. Long slog to get the start (especially from way I approach) but downhill from there.

It was the first time I've done it. Left the house to go to Herne Bay market. Got there and decided to go to Whitstable and then thought I might as well do the trail. The only bit that was a bit weird is that orchard thing in the middle. I got to it and almost went the wrong way as the other side of the path had a no entry sign on it for some reason. Luckily some fruit packers got me back on course. I noticed it joins another route down to Dover which I'll probably do at some point.

As long as you enjoyed it the time it took doesn't matter too much.

Well done on the top speed!

I really enjoyed it, nice scenery time to think etc I am quite happy with the overall climb as well.

I am surprised I hit that top speed as I am using new tyres so I was being quite tentative especially on corners.
