obviously not - but it would be a shame not to take advantage of the publicity coup - however accidental it was - cheap as chips as well - I suspect the column inches/internet hits that it generated was rather more than Major Tim has garnered - which I suspect has cost UK considerably more - personally i would like to see more money invested in planet earth research - maybe a sister ship? the loss of Flight 370 highlighted how little of our planet is accurately mapped

Thank god good sense has prevailed. This was a classic example of the lack of wisdom of the crowd. The exploration and research of the polar regions is a serious business, in which the UK is recognised as world leader. The whole Boaty McBoatface thing was a joke which was funny for all of 30 seconds. Sir David Attenborough has done than anyone to popularise the issues around ecology and deserves the honour.
