I nearly got wiped out in Accrington yesterday by a VW Golf GTI, driven by what looked like someone off his head escaping the armed police!

There I was having just put my dog in my car after we'd been to the usual chip shop for fish, mushy peas with a blob of mayonnaise when I heard a screeching tyres sound coming my way, followed by the sight of a VW Golf doing what must've been 50mph in a 30mph zone! I stood still hoping the car wasn't going to skid or roll, with it passing me by about 2 feet with the car's open window allowing me to see the face of the driver, followed a few seconds later by a police car in hot pursuit! The driver of the Golf then drove the wrong way down a one way street, with thankfully no vehicles at the time approaching this car head on! About 30 seconds later another two police cars came down the same road with me waving frantically to indicate the direction of the incident. Then after about a minute I saw what looked like a copper with a sidearm on his hip running towards the direction of the pursuit. The incident was mentioned later on the Hyndburn/Accrington Facebook page below, for those who can access it.

We have a drug problem in Accrington, but that's the first armed police incident I've seen here and the first time I've seen an armed copper in the flesh, apart from on 'foreign' holidays.

I went to see if I could find a report and tried the Lancashire Telegraph
The front page had a big picture of a Lancaster bomber
My immediate thought was "Wow - armed Police are getting more serious nowadays"

before my brain cut in and realised that there are airshows around today!!!


on another note I had a similar thing many years ago in Caernarvon
I was walking up a hill pushing my daughter in her buggy and generally talking rubbish - as you do with young children (and cycling forums)

my partner (the kids mother- less said the better) was some distance behind me and we went up a steep hill and round a sharp bend

I suddenly noticed "something" behind me and a noise
and a VW golf suddenly jumped off the kerb just behind me and shot past me
followed by a Police car a few seconds later





apparently the car had come round the corner at high speed and not made it
mounted the pavement just in front of my partner and then recovered JUST in time to get back on the road before he hit me and the baby

it was all so fast that I was just starting to turn to look when he got back on the road
I can still remember the look on the faces of the 3 lads in the car as they past me

strange day
