No need to continue in an older thread as the point should be clear. Use of the roads is available to all and should be of equal right. There is no tax on that use. In some circumstances people pay tax on the conditions of their private use but this is not an entitlement for them to claim more right of use.

I've always thought it better to have a T-shirt that reads "I DON'T pay Road Tax"

My car is in quite a high band, therefore I will when I use it overtake owners of lower banded cars and point out my massive contribution.

Is it worth us clubbing together and buying a 30 second slot on prime time ITV to explain the situation to the mouth breathing, bobble hat wearing, Daily mail reading tossers who spout it.

They are like the "Outraged from Tumbridge Wells" nobheads who complain to Points of View about what "Their" licence fee is being spent on, yawn.....

I would say it was more the Sun reader mentality. Daily Mail readers are more interested in the waves & waves of immigrants that are entering the country and are eating up the local supply of Swans and Carp.

Maybe we need a shirt printing with

"These car owners do NOT pay road tax :

Seat Ibiza Ecomotive
Toyota iQ
Smart Fortwo CDi
Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion

Ford Fiesta ECOnetic

Please feel free to abuse them as you see fit."

It isn't just "green" cars that don't pay road tax. I can't remember what the car* is, but my friend's mum's car is £0 per year. It is just a very small car, rather than an attempt at being a green car.

*(some boring, souless, bland thing).

Also, anything registered before 1974 (I think) is exempt.

Oh come on do you really go to the post office and ask for a vehicle Excise Duty Disk please (if you have a car)

Road tax and tax disk are handy terms for VED.

Lets just call it "Stupidity Tax" and have done with it...
