HERE you go

In a nutshell every LGV driver must accrue 35 hours of ongoing training every 5 years, but the deadline to have your initial 35 hours completed is September '14.

After that you can gradually accrue the 35 hours over the following 5 years.

Your Driver CPC is to say that you can drive a truck on paper as well as on tarmac... It's an EU revenue raising thing.

I sat three 7.5 hour modules and a two day Legal Conformance Course for my CPC requirement/Driver Qualification Card that gives me an entitlement until September 2019 which, luckily, is a month before I retire :wahhey:

P.s if you do take it do it in a wagon and drag. With the fifth wheel being further forward the trailer straightens out quicker making them easier to drive and reverse.
I don't know the technicalities, but if this test is taken in the easier type of vehicle, is someone then qualified to drive the harder type as well? That doesn't seem right....

The category is C+E, (Class 2 plus enhancement, this replaced the old Class 1 like NT has but is the same entitlement). A pass in the wagon and drag does qualify you to drive any articulated LGV as it is still an articulated set up. TBH though the training place I went with do recommend some time spent in their artic unit as well if you pass in the 'easier' set up.
Tbh I would do your one. I'm not sure where you work but in general haulage the difference between the two is vast with class 2 being mostly multi drop and class 1 being easier trunking with better pay and a better fleet.
I hear you Beano but TBH I've no desire to get into the haulage side of the industry. I work for a drainage company, and as such will be driving suction tankers, gulley wagons and jet vac tankers.

Thanks for the info though.

Well done on your pass. :bravo:
I agree with the others if you get the opportunity to do your C+E go for it, who knows what the future will bring.
Although my name says Trucker I'm not, I have the other CPC = International Transport Manager.
I wanted to be a lorry driver but my dad would't let me.

Had to let my C licence expire in Sep 12 as I did not have the CPC and could not justify the cost. Passed my HGV 2 in Jan 77 and had driven off an on in the intervening period. Driver CPC seems as you say to be revenue raising scam. When I did my Transport Managers Int and Nat CPC, the instructor told me that the 35 hrs for Driver CPC could comprise 5 days of the same instruction - no need for any development.

Take a test in mini and you can drive up to 3.5t - but just sits in the same group B.

I've been looking at lgv jobs, but they all want minimum of 1 year experience driving.
I have C+E and several other entitlements already.

How are you supposed to get experience when nobody will give you a job in the first place?
Catch 22 if i ever saw one

I've heard a lot of people saying similar things TBH.

I've been really lucky as I know the guy I'm working for and he offered to pay for my LGV so I'll be driving his vehicles from Monday, but I'm not sure I'd have paid to do the LGV myself in the hope of finding employment straight off the back of it.

It might be worth talking to the company you trained with as my instructor was saying he's fixed a few people up with work after they've passed their test.

Good luck though Tanis, I hope everything works out.

Havent trained with any. Had my licence 20+ years now. Only used a couple of times many years ago.

Ah OK, I can see why that might prove tricky for you.

It might be a good idea to have a bit of refresher training, (just an idea). At least that'll show potential employers that you're committed. You might also get some contacts from your instructor then as well.

Don't forget, you will have to have your CPC completed by September 2014 as well.

Good luck
