I only buy stainless steel spokes when I build my wheels, never seen one like that.
As for chainrings, I think dural is supposed to be quite tough.

STRONGLIGHT rings. In fact it seems Dural are Stronglight, or vice versa.

I think that it is a gear side spoke, with a dérailleur that slips?
If so, it was caused by the chain unshipping and catching the spokes chewing a chunk out

I always preferred rustless spokes as I found SS liable to being a bit prone to fracture and chrome a bit prone to going rusty it is just a pity they look bl##dy horrible.

Bingo! Slipping on the SS side, rebuilding now.
