Today I was cycling along a shared use path with the road to my right. I was going along at a steady pace, nothing much happening with not a lot of traffic about.I notice a car coming towards me on the road but think nothing of it.
As it reaches me, there is a right hand bend in the road (I am going around the edge of the bend).

The car then drives into the kerb right besides me, kicking up dust and making a tire-rubbing noise. the whole car wobbles about and I feared that it was going to come onto the kerb.
I dont know if the driver was on the phone or falling asleep or something, but immediately after they just carried on driving.

It really shook me up and I had to stop for a few seconds to gather myself. I then contemplated how lucky I was, there was a drop kerb just cm from where he hit and if he had gone up that, I would have surely been hit. He was travelling at about 50mph (NSL road) and was driving a Ford Fiesta (if that has anything to do with it) so I would have surely had serious, if not life threatening injuries if he had hit me.

It really scared me when he hit the kerb.

I hear ya!

Glad it wasn't a lot worse.

I had a "moment" in America a few years back. I'd borrowed my cousin's old banger and crossed a 4 lane one-way highway. Lights were mine and it seemed safe to go. I got across two lanes and then on the third a car shot through the red lights at about 40mph. I went behind it, onwards to the fourth lane and straight past another car that shot past as I just cleared the final lane.

Funny thing was, I was stuck in a high gear and the bike had no brakes, so I could neither accelerate nor decelerate. (I tried to.) Had I done either, I would have undoubtedly been a statistic on account of one or other of the cars.

When I got to the other sidewalk I had to stop because of the sheer "wheww!!" and it was one of those taking-stock moments, fear and elation in equal measure.

It couldn't have been one of the many motorists you've had your run-ins with could it?

Bound to see one of them again at some point as you seem to have more than your fair share of moments.

Hes to young to have had much to remember, some of us would take so long to see it all that we would not have had time to swerve
