...before volvo idiot tried to swap paint with me i was riding along the a142 where i've not seen one cyclist going my way - and only two going the other - in about 6 weeks. imagine my surprise and then dismay this morning then when, as i began heading down a rather lovely descent a couple of miles from my destination, i check my shoulder to see a couple of roadies gaining rather rapidly.

a few seconds after the shoulder check and they breeze past me, i don't think they had time to say hi - being the annoyingly competitive soul that i am regardless of my ability, my first thought is to try to stick a respectable distance behind them - this lasted all of about 30 seconds as they moved steadily in to the distance...

just made me realise my level of fitness/strength i suppose but i was most vexed for a few minutes - not long after i had volvo boy to deal with so the 'easy pass' was almost forgotten...

The opinion I have formed through simple observation over many many years of cycling to work and riding a motorbike is that Volvos are primarily bought by middle-aged people who have acknowledged that their driving skills are never going to be sufficient and therefore choose to surround themselves with the nearest thing a car showroom has to a tank.

Except those Volvo drivers on this forum who find it the perfect vehicle to bung their mountainbike in the back of, and who are courteous to cyclists on the road.
