Sorry gaz but I'm only awarding you 0/10 on this one

-1 for no language

-1 for not screaming and rolling around like you've been shot

-1 for admiring your reflection in the shop window (before crash)

+5 for the crash

+2 for your calm collective manner after the fall

-6 for the compensation claim that leaf is going to throw at you

It's a rite of passage. There are nine main road surface problems that catch cyclists out: kerbs, diesel, wet leaves, cobbles, greasy road markings, pot-holes, tramlines, slippery manhole covers/grates and ice. I'm pleased to say I've hit the ground after problems with only 5 of the above!

Overbanding ?

Dropped manhole covers (Pothole + Manhole ?) are particularly bad, we have a bend near me with two of these buggers , each on a different line absolute nightmare on the motorbike......

Can I add the metal studs on the road a pedestrian crossings? They're a nightmare, especially when you're turning round a corner where you'll have to avoid them twice. Especially nasty when you have an impatient moron revving away inches from your back wheel.

There's a particularly dodgy set here, where the road between them is potholed, and they're on a bend and where the traffic's coming off a roundabout pretty quickly behind you. Not only that, but before you hit them you've got to avoid the ruts and disintegrating joins between different patch-up jobs on the surface which criss-cross the lane. It's awkward when it's dry and in daylight, but when it's dark and wet it can be real brown-trouser stuff. (The surface is much worse now than when the Streetview pic was taken - last winter saw to that and the council have avoided repairing it all year).

Metal studs, cat's-eyes and wrongly laid directional, tactile paving - all accepted!

Gaz...First and foremost...hope you are alright,a horrible thing to happen.Looking at your footage i think you may have just turned your wheel causing your front wheel to slightly slide for a second. These tiles you went onto are lethal for road bikes.Had you rntered onto them gradually, you would not have slipped.Anyway!!! a lesson learned to us all.Good Luck mate,

One more thing Gaz....Why did you not SSSSSCCCRRREEEEAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMM! I bloody would have.

When the front wheel goes like that, your going down what ever and you will probably hit the deck before you know the wheel has slipped. i just got ready to roll and brace for impact!

Good list of things to avoid, but you missed out pigeon shoot. Cycling through a slick if this under a tree was the cause of my last serious fall. Concussion, black eye, cut nose, bruised shoulder and ribs, shitty clothes. Helmet was wrecked but skull stayed intact.

I went down due to wet leaves when turning a corner once. I saw them too late. I just thought "shoot wet leaves" and the next thing I was pulling them out of my mouth.
