I read that as a "bit of sh*te work". In which case the "fragrance" factory wouldn't be very pleasant

When I was at college I used to work in a pub that had a fragrance factory round the corner.

On a Friday afternoon some of the staff used to come in, including the factory engineer in his dirty overalls.

He always used to get, "hello duckie," and, " you smell like a whore's handbag," because of the whiff he gave off.
