I think my wheels are done.

Not sure where such a post belongs really.

But I think I've finished my first set of self built wheels.

36 spoke, 3 cross, Mavic A319 on Deore M530 hubs.

I'm currently terrified that they'll explode under me when first used.

Did the final tensioning (at least, I think it's the final one) tonight, along with a little bit of truing. Mounted a tyre to the rear wheel & inflated it to running pressure (80ish, as they're 32c "City" tyres). Spoke tensions seemed to hold, so I guess the next thing is to put them on a bike.

Gulp.

Neat, that must be incredibly satisfying. Learning to build wheels is on my list of things I really ought to do one of these days.

Did you use a spoke tension gauge?

No - I just couldn't justify the £70 to myself.

Tension wise, I compared with my other wheels, and tried to aim for something that felt similar in the set I was building.

There's a gale blowing across the Cheshire plain today - so if he's set off with the wind behind him it might be Monday when he gets back to report.

No such luck Fossy - I sort of have to build the bike they're going on first... :biggrin:

Front wheel (before the tension was taken up, hence the bowed spokes);

I used Roger Musson's eBook to build the wheels, and the truing stand you see is from his plans in the book.
