Apart from that we are not green; Mrs Gti complains that she's cold and opens the lounge radiator TRV to full then lights the stove; often the temperature in the lounge hits 25c and she's still complaining.

You really ought to let her put some clothes on!

Agree wholeheartedly on the loft insulation. Even if you only add two layers to the edge parts and under the tank that isn't usually boarded, it'll make a big difference. Lifting the boards and insulating under is a good idea but that can wait until spring and it's not such hostile conditions in a loft. Just careful not to block any condensation vents.

Not necessarily.... if you start adding the inputs (growing inputs, transport, processing etc) to many of the arable food stuffs then they're not as 'green' as many like to think.

Yeah that's true. Although in a way it's split- for the UK and the USA the weight of the food is more key, as most of the population needs to consume less calories. But for the world as the whole, yes, calories would be the key measure.

Honestly no idea. Milk being that low did surprise me so I'm not sure how it's calculated. I'll see if I can find out....

5kW solar here. I don't know how that translates in terms of annual generation, but it earns about £300-£400 a quarter in the tariff. Also got a big wood burner which I use a lot, having spent the warm weather accumulating free fuel. Still use some has to heat then whole house though.
