(As some will recall from my post earlier this week about swapping MTB tyres & wheels around, I have the need to do some road cycling. I still intend swapping the MTB tyres around for narrower ones. As I do go on a few roads between my home and the canal path, these narrower tyres will be better I feel). Thank you to all who commented.
So, I decided that I did not want to be the “richest man in Rotherham cemetery” lol. Also as I seem to use the bike on more occasions than I use the car, I have placed an order for a Rose bike.
A free phone number is provided on their website. The phone is always answered in German language. I always respond to their greeting with something like “good afternoon from the United Kingdom”. This prompts the person to immediately begins speaking in English.
After discussing all my queries, I phoned the credit card company and told them of my intended purchase as I did not want any hassle of a blocked transaction. (I rarely use this card and as the amount was quite high I figured I would smooth the way).
I initially attempted to order using the Rose website/system. Once you have selected your bike, there is the opportunity to swap & change the bike components. In my case I just changed the standard saddle to a soft gel one, for an extra £6. I also selected the most appropriate frame size that the guy I had spoken to advised me on. I decided that having pedals on a bike is quite a good idea, so I purchased a pair. These pedals were some that the guy at Rose had recommended, so I had the item reference number. As the bike does not come with pedals I could not use the swap & change facility. Going back to the search box to locate the pedals and adding to the basket seemed to cock everything up.
I was now getting frustrated with the site in respect of the above issue. I should say at this point that the issue could have been with me-the juries still out. So, I decided to phone Rose and place the order verbally, which went very smoothly. Their English is much better than my German, and they are very helpful & patient.
Finally, after paying with the card, I was informed that I would also need to email some ID. I simply took a photo of my passport and emailed it using the reply email that the order confirmation had come through on. Apparently the bike takes about 2 weeks to arrive. When it arrives I shall take photos of everything, and will write a full review on here with the photos. I feel optimistic.
