First and most important - Hi to everyone and have a safe ride !

I don't know much about bikes but want to travel in the town using bike and can't decide what to choose. I will do probably 2-4 times a day 3-4 miles in a small town but with enough traffic to make me carefull.
I am looking for sturdy ,not to heavy bike , with good control as sometimes will be slightly rushing and to have or could be installed mudguards as need to keep clothes clean as possible ( even if Ieave some at work ) .

I had seen old Butler Odyssey(but not much used - as per cycling shop) and new Ridgeback Velocity (thinking about female variant maybe as more comfortable ) ,but noticed as well Vitus Vee/Dee -single speed, simple ( 26 or 29 wheeles ? ) . http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/vitus-bikes-vee-1-city-bike/rp-prod80999
It probably will needs to be 15-16 size and I haven;t ridden a bike from at least 12 years .
I would like to limit the expence to under 400 £ although could go further - I saw some Cannondale reduced recently as well and nearly bought them .
I haven;t properly tried neither of the bikes and Vitus is only online .

What are your thoughts ?

Thank you !

Anybody could give me information about Ridgeback Velocity vs Butler Odyssey at least ..?
I heard some good things about Velocity , but not much about Butler Odyssey ..

Any other ideas will be welcome :-)

This site sells the type of single speed bike that would probably be perfect for the type of around-town riding you expect to do.Mango bikes let you choose your own colour scheme for the bike(the brighter the better for urban riding), and the owners' reviews are good.http://www.mangobikes.co.uk/

All I can say my commuter when I lived back up north was a Rideback Velocity and I don't think you can go far wrong with them. I don't know anything about the Claud Butler Odyssey but from a quick google its got suspension forks so I'd avoid it.

Edit I like the vitus but SS may not be apt for you.
