I want to do LEJOG

There is a good alternative to Edinburgh or Glasgow by hopping onto and off Arran. If you go through Glasgow you are pretty much bound to take the A82 alongside Loch Lomond and I would not like to have to cycle that.

http://peter.chesspod.com/blog/ is the LEJOG we did in April 2007. We were extremely lucky with the weather in that we didn't get any rain until we were on Arran and only the one properly wet day, when we went through Fort William.

April and May are often the best months to visit Scotland as they tend to be drier and sunnier than most, there are no midges and fewer tourists than in July and August.

Remember to look at the sleeper: Bargain Berths can be had from £19 per person, Euston to any of many Scottish destinations. It's also possible to get the sleeper to Penzance. There are also "normal" advance tickets on these services.
