how the sales of cigarettes and tobacco products in supermarkets have been affected by their new non display cabinets.

I find it weird to see staff working behind a counter standing in front of white sliding doors in my local Asda.

it'll probably have the same effect as the warning labels and gruesome pictures on the packets... or the (almost) ban on advertising.


the fact is, smokers are a dying breed... the figures have been steadily declining since the 1970's (citation needed).

That said, when I was last in Italy, it was something of a novelty to actually smell cigarette and cigar* smoke in public places. I'm sure the novelty would wear off again if I actually had to live there.


* - I came across a Railway Police Officer when was obviously going for the John Wayne/Clint Eastwood look, with hat, stubble and cigar, I kid you not.

Maybe he was trying to make his own Spaghetti Western.
