Saw him win the Tour of Britain stage that finished in Tatton Park a few years ago.

Always liked him, always seemed a no nonsense very hard rider.

He used to live around the corner from me (Charlesworth). Must have decided the Peak District was too hard and moved to leafy, flat Cheshire

Those few kms are pretty much my commute. The race finished on the Overpoortstraat which is the main student drag. Must have been given a good sweep before the race as it's usually full of smashed glass.

He took the wrong line through the preceding corner and missed the chance to get on to the path. He cut in at the first opportunity.
