I used to work with a girl who did one of the sculptures in that...no idea which one though.

Here are a few of the photos that I took of the 2009 Norwich Ice sculpture trai,l the week before Christmas.

Living in this cosmopolitian, regional, metropolis of Norwich, we have the opportunity to enjoy many of the arts.

This is the third year that Norwich City Council has sponsored a one day Christmas Ice sculpture trail within the city centre retail area. According to the local BBC radio news, this year's Ice sculpture trail encouraged 30,000 visitors into Norwich, with all of the; Cafes, shops, and the market benefiting from this influx; although I have to admitt that at no time did the crowds feel either overwelming or intimidating.
These are the first Ice Sculptures that I have had the pleasure of viewing that are considerably larger than a table centre piece. Here are few of the facts regarding this particular exihibition.

Icy facts.......
The sculptures are:

Made from around 10 tonnes of Ice; that's the equivalent of about 10,000 litres of water.

Sculpted with Japanese chisels made in the Samurai tradition.
Transported from London at -25* Centigrade.

Hand carved by a team of five sculptors over the course of three months.
The sculptures only last for 1 day.

So here are a few of the photos that I took:

Not wanting to be out done by a professional Ice Carver, some teenagers built a Snow Sphinx in the Castle Gardens:

We have a mini ice festival mid-December here in York, in The Quarter (a right angle of narrow streets and trendy-ish shops), they have sculptures, and snow machines in the upper windows (just blowing a light drift of bubble-like flakes over everything). A couple of the eateries serve up hot food outside, and last year one of the sculptures was a sort of chute for dispensing shots of Baileys, ready chilled....
