Coffee and Recumbent Trikes.......
Had a quick go with my neighbours GoPro and Dashware software on my ICE Vortex FS.....

After a 90km ride I had to go past one of my favourite spots - Bells/Southside valley, so did a little speed run. The bike is in commute mode with the seat as most upright as it goes and a rack and rear mudguard, not exactly in a speedy mode.....nonetheless my Garmin hit a Vmax of 70.5 kph.

Obviously when you descend, you have to ascend as well, so speeded up that bit......this video editing malarkey is hard.....

Anyway, 70.5 kph on a recumbent trike.....

Nice vid.

What was the gradient of the slope when you hit max speed ??
With no headwind it only takes ~9% hill for me to hit those type of speeds on my Sprint FS+ and ~17% for me to top 50 mph.

There was a bit of a headwind but not too strong....

Not sure of the gradient to be honest, I would have to check the Garmin data.... My seat was at full upright position as I had my rack fitted and rear mudguard, with the seat in its lowest position Vmax would be better....

There's a big dip on the first hill as well and everything gets a bit squirrelly.... A fine line.....

Would love to mess around with an aero tail box or tailsok !

ICE trikes are cool ! I love the suspension, could not imagine it without, my old GT5 was a real bone shaker on he coarse chip Aussie roads....

I just went through my Garmin data files.....

On my video the 1st hill is 7.8% descent but quite short, the second hill is 6.7% but longer.......

Thanks Neil.....how's the Catrike going ? Hopefully you've had some decent weather to get out on it ?

We had an excellent long weekend here in Oz (Labour Day Bank Holiday), so managed to get out for 3 rides.....and managed over 220km in all :-)

Weather was nice last sunday bright sunshine and fairly warm !! so went for a 15 mile ride around the millenium cycle coastal path in Llanelli. Cat 700 is a nice trike to ride very light and attracts lots of attention when I,m riding. PS Cant wait for the summer. Happy triking to you all.

What is the surface like?

I am looking at doing the Celtic Trail on the Gekko (Trains won't take the Expedition)

cant say about the celtic trail , but the millenium one is paved smooth and its wide so you dont have to dodge walkers, love going there as you can ride down to pembrey country park which has good paths as well, think you would really enjoy it.

At the moment I'm a-dribbling and a-drooling over the Vortex. As they never come up 2nd hand though, it looks like I'll have to save my pennies and maybe treat myself for Xmas, (it's true, you never can settle on just the one recumbent!)

I've hit just over 45mph on my Strada, but it was a bit scary. I'm sure the Vortex felt a lot more stable at that speed?

The Orca runs well at 47.8 mph (GPS indicated speed - shortly after it registered 51 and a bit but I don't believe it because it was a step change in the trace)... I wonder how fast a trike would go down the same road... and why am I tempted to push the Orca just a bit harder and see if I can hit the big 50????? I thought I was too old for silliness like that!
