Another one for the medic alert bracelet. I have the sports version which gives my relevent medical conditions and allergies (like non-steriodal anti-inflamatory drugs such as aspirin & ibruprofen) and the fact that in an emergency i need to be given IV steriods.
A simple phone call quoting my reference number (tel number & ID number are on bracelet) will give access to the information I have provided to the company which includes my medical conditions, 3 family members in order of priority, my GP details, my hospital details +consultants, what medication I am currently on and what needs to be done in an emergency (I have a relatively unknown medical condition that can kill in minutes and can easily be missed because symptoms can easily be attributed to other causes).
Interestingly medic alert now do a reflective sports band which could be worth considering next time I need to replace my existing sports band. an example of what can be on the band is here.

I wear a dog tag with my details on. I'm a keen runner, and as i don't carry anything with me, i thought it would be a good idea to have some form of ID on me incase i dropped down dead.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but I've just downloaded an app called RideID for my iPhone.
Now like a few of you have mentioned, what if you lock your phone? Well with this app you add your info for your ICE contacts and then it generates a picture with your details and the two ICE contacts and their relationship to you. It then instructs you to take a screenshot and then set this as your lock screen.
It looks a bit ugly and it means that I have to remove the photo of my beloved from my lock screen but the one time that it's needed I'm sure you would all say that it's worth it.
Just a cheap way of carrying the information with you.
Oh, the app is free too.

sounds useful if you don't have a life threatening condition. But my understanding was that it would be police that would look to ID you not medical staff who will just treat you, so anyone with a serious medical condition would be better off with something that medical staff look for, like a medic alert bracelet.

Yeah I have to agree with you on that one but if you don't have any medical conditions then for the sake of downloading the app and adding a few details I think it's worth it just in case you have that dreaded accident.

It's odd that it doesn't work with the 3G as it's only a bog standard app that generates an image. Apologies for that.agreed
Edit: does not work with my iPhone 3G has to be 3GS or above..

coding - it wants IOS 5 minimum which the programmer has written it for. The iPhone 3G will only upgrade to iOS 4.2. Apple have now terminated support for it - this is becomming a rather common theme, but as a phone it works just great. If I had the app before the restrictions (i.e. the old version of it) then I would be fine and I could continue to use it, but I can't get any new apps. annoying as hell because the phone works fine, the battery life is great (and I didn't pay for it, it was given to me by my brother) so can't really complain!
