I bought a palm tree/plant a month ago. It's doing so well that i'll soon need a larger pot for it. The palm is now in a pot about 11 inch in diameter. I know i can re-pot it in a bigger plastic pot but i fancy something a bit better looking than a plastic pot. I've looked at pots and planters on the web. what they describe as big planters are around £50 to £80 and some are well over that. I have an old galvanised bucket outside. I've thought about drilling holes in the bottom and painting it bronze. On looking at it again i don't think it'd be big enough. It's only 12 inch diameter at the top,8 inch at the bottom and 12 inch in height. Have any of you lot any ideas for a cheap homemade,or ready made big enough pot or planter that my palm can grow in?

Nowhere near big enough - you want something much deeper or else it will be top heavy and unstable.

We've got two 2.4m x 1m x 5 deckboard deep raised planters for veg and strawberries. Yep filling it was costly, but we excavated quite a bit of soil before building decking and then the planters.

What about a wooden planter ? Cheap and easy to make out of timber.
Can you remember when Frank Spencer made a cot for baby Jessica, in Some Mothers Eo 'Ave' Em? My attempt at woodwork would look like that!
