I’ve just started collecting vintage bicycles I picked this up today please could you help identify what it is?

Hello and welcome the forum.

I'm afraid I'm no expert but it does look like a Royal something, but what? Only thing I came up with is Royal Enfield or Scot, or could be the model name. If it has a Sturmer Archer hub that carries a date which might narrow things down.

"Royal" for sure, and after that names like Enfield, Ensign spring to mine - possibly Sunbeam, but it looks like it's running out of space for the "eam". Can't find any similar badges via Google (and I presume you can't either). I suggest you show us some photos of the whole bike.
