Those who felt the mod's were acting incorrectly could have always of flagged the message for the whole group of mods to look at.

I've already dealt with this. It really depends what your view of moderators are and how literally you take the guidelines (I wasn't even talking about P&L and Peanut rarely went there, ironically the problem was on subforums trying to become friendlier). There is a much more nuanced view than simply someone was shockingly rude. If you read things like Arch said, (in fact she said the same thing to Peanut) then there are no grounds for flagging. I'm not particularly fond of this view as if it is the case you then get back to the same issues I previously mentioned. I'm not convinced that the moderators see any of what I'm talking about because they were parts of these threads that have been contentious! The threads were all train wrecks in slow motion. Moreover flagging something up reinforces the them and us mentality and the whole outsider thing, which is why I'm very reluctant to do it, along with the other reasons I've outlined of which I believe my post should be taken in entirity.

The word friendly - along with friendliness is key here, marin.

That is it (all, in fact) If a poster can't get 'it' - there is a problem in the pipes...

So you think things shouldn't be flagged, and then people can complain that nothing was ever done...

I really don't see the them and us thing. There are mods for a reason, part of the reason being that if Admin had to do it all he'd a) have no time to live and  have a nervous breakdown. Some people are mods, some aren't. But mods are also people. As alecetc said, if any of us are involved in a thread, we don't act on it as mods, and follow the majority feeling.

It seems you think mods shouldn't be normal forummers as well - isn't that even more 'them and us'?

Can I suggest you PM Admin with details, so he can take whatever action is required? That's a serious allegation.

+1 and I am hoping it remains a relatively light hearted thread.

If a moderator ever abused their mod tools, they wouldn't be welcome as a mod any more. Simple as that.

So far no one, to my knowledge, has ever done that.

Sometimes new mods make a cock-up when trying to move/edit things, and the old-hats help them out, but I've never know a mod do anything deliberately malicious. (There are safeguards against mods going rogue suhc as a moderator job log that they cannot edit [so I can see what everyone has done] and the ability only to soft-delete items (which removes them from view, but not the database); so even the mods are not unlimited in their powers!!!)

Whilst they're all volunteers, they also know that they have a duty to be responsible with their additional powers and they all seem to understand that.

I really don't know where some of the animosity towards the mods comes from? Honestly, if it wasn't for the mods this place would be covered in spam and full or porn links and all manner of unsavoury stuff. The fact you don't see it (well not for long anyway) is a testement to how good the mods are at keeping-house.

If you've got a specific complaint, send it to me, if not, just join in with the fun aspect of what this thread was originally about - a virtual (not in a million years) mod team.

Cheers,
Shaun
