hmmm., seems the post is no longer there.

here goes in short.

sent cheque for some STI. cheque cashed. no STI. wrote letters told STI not in stock. wrote letters asking for money back, no response, no refund. 'phoned asking for refund - told too busy - "but not too busy to cash cheque" I said, went a bit downhill from there - still nothing. ended up sending letter saying I was taking them to small claims. cheque arrived after maybe 6 months and much hassle on my part.

not the way to do business.

will never recommend them nor give them a single penny.

this is going back a fewe years but still hate them.

**** 'em. the theiveing lying bastards.

+1 for the Ribble winter bike. I built my own last year and it cost more than you can get this years complete bike for. Bargain at £580 for the Tiagra version.

If you are near to North Herts you can come and have a go on mine. The latest bike that I am building is probably more what you wanted but even searching out bargains I have spent over 1K so far, would have been far better off going for a PlanetX or Boardman off the peg. No fun in that though.

Lots of differing opinion on the Ribble's. I've heard good things elsewhere though. Thanks for the kind offer stevevw - not too near Herts though.

Yes - watching these ones currently - possibly a bid to come... but - how do I confirm that the frame is indeed 531/653 etc? For example:

Now says its 531 tubing, but I'm lightly put off by the lack of interest actually...is it possible that stickers have just been put on?

Short answer is you can't. Homework can help - google around to see if you can find references to that particular model, and more info about it. Also, email the seller and ask: get a feel for who you're dealing with.

I do rather doubt whether anyone would go to the bother of putting fake stickers on a bike like that - if you were going to go that route, wouldn't you start out with something a bit sexier?

Looks like a good spot to me - I like the rake of the forks...

As it stands topping the list is the Falcon Strada (who's ever heard of a Falcon Strada??) and the Peugeot 531 Pro...

Every chance I end up with neither - but I'm seeing this as a really good means of getting my teeth into knowing more about my bike. Changing gear cassettes, rings etc.

Having said that I do need something I can ride straight away so its got to be in half decent nick...

Update all. Managed to buy the Falcon for £85. I'm pretty pleased with that. Be interested to know what people think of the price.

Thanks for your help - really appreciated. Now - onto that carbon...

£85 is probably fair enough price these days, depending on the state of the drivetrain and the wheels. Have fun with it while you are saving up for the carbon.
