Bunch of young schoolkids on the pavement as I was making good speed along the road. As I passed I heard one of them say - "Oh WOW !! Chris Hoy !!" (and in an awed voice, not your usual sarcastic comment from the sidelines).

I think he mistook my chunky thighs for muscle - or perhaps my white CC top fooled them (since all the pics of Sir Chris show him in white) !

Either way, it did give me a laugh being mistaken for a REAL cyclist

Why are you not a real cyclist?

I came bombing up my hill today on my good fixed. Some chavs shouted, "Sick bike" as i had gone past as they were struggling up on their BMX things

Sometimes I wonder if I'm just a figment of someone else's imagination, though.

You sure they were chavs and not BMX riders? We've got some good ramps in our area and you see quite a few BMX riders about. Nice kids and I've never heard any of them give lip - they're as into their sport as any other enthusiast. In fact, possibly more because some of the ones I see on the ramps have obviously put a LOT of work in!
They certainly accomodate my 11 year old when he's using his skateboard on the ramp.

It's just that the term 'sick' is a very skate/bmx word, not a chav one in my experience.

I got "rude" the other week from a youf on a mtb.

I'm sure I didn't say or do anything rude though

My bike is a bit "bling" though

Woz! - agreed - probably a skater.

The local 'dudes' round here are nice guys too, generally polite and largely mis-understood. some of them have superb handling skills too!

A far cry from the chavs and boy racers, who (generally) are complete no-mark wates of space.
