Why would the weather dictate whether you rode your bike in or not?!

Saying that, there was a proper gale in Toon around this time last year. Nearly got blown off the Redheugh Bridge on my way to football. A vaguely terrifying experience!

I started commuting in the winter just to stop myself making excuses. Not planning on stopping this winter

I do look back and think. "I was an idiot. Why didn't I start in summer" now though admittedly.

If you make it through the winter, there'll be no stopping you at all

I remember said gales, going into work crossing the Brunton Lane bridge over the A1, I got blown completely the wrong side of the raid.
Got off the bike and back on my side I had to walk the bike at a 45 degree angle to brace me against as it was literally blowing me over.
100 metres on, back on the bike and fought the devil-wind the last mile into work.

Great post.

To be honest, I'm still seeing as many cyclists as usual, but the sub-zero temps usually sort the men from the boys!

I'm still commuting - and plan to do so all winter.

Like others, the numbers have dwindled and now I only see the odd one or two others on the same route, which had up to 20 at any one time mid-summer.
