To be honest, I'm still seeing as many cyclists as usual, but the sub-zero temps usually sort the men from the boys!

Indeed. Still busy round here this year whereas it would have been quiet 2 or 3 winters ago.

I started in November 2 years ago, its a bit surreal when it starts to get lighter and warmer, I remember the first time I set of in the morning in shorts thinking it was really odd! Then I injured my back and missed most of my 'first' summer, by the time I got back on the bike it was dark and cold again.

I meant to ask this a few weeks ago, but did you cycle during the great storm of October 1987? If so what the hell was it like?

It's not that wintery here yet, by our standards.
This will be my second winter commuting and going about by bike.
If I made it last winter, as a pure numpty newbie and without the support of the cycle chat network, you can be sure I'll not stop now

Thats a good question, I honestly can't remember, I think we missed the worst of it in Coventry, I remember going to Kent by train a few months later and being amazed by the number of tree's that were down. My wife gave birth to our youngest son in the September so we had our hands full at that time.
I have memories from the 1990's of storms, having to get off the bike and climb over a fallen tree on the Kenilworth road on the way to work one morning, and on the way to work one stormy Saturday having a large branch fall off a tree and land in the road about a hundred yards behind me, it forced a sharp stop from the Taxi that drove past me travelling in the opposite direction.

Yes a great post Jonny.

I had a week off with a family wedding and then being unwell.

When I got back on the bike for my commute on Tuesday it was like being with an old friend. Loved it and couldn't wait to cycle home again!

I have on a full length bib, vest, waterproof jacket, gloves and overshoes I don't care that some that I pass are also still in shorts and short sleeved tops. I feel warm and comfortable and that is all that matters.

I was cycling, it'd been 8 years since I'd come back to cycling after a break and 2 years since I'd started club riding. I'd got a mortgage a and a young family and was doing everything on a shoe string, I'm still doing everything on a shoe string now but at least the family have grown up and the mortgage, I had 2 all together, is paid off.
