A beautiful city with lovely food and drink.
It will still be warm too.

A day or two at the coast is feasible.

Or Ellesmere Port.

I've been to Hartington with @rich p. Just sayin'.

I was messing around, but pointing out some of the places I know rich p has already been are pretty good.

A more serious suggestion might be Lampedusa. Another one is stay on top of the Monte Conero, near Ancona. Also near to a lot of other places, vineyards and can even go into Ancona and get the ferry to Split in Croatia. I know rich p's been around that area too so he might have done that.

I think it was because SWMBO was nearby on business at the Hospital, so we stayed at a hotel overlooking the Boat Museum

Rhodes or Corfu. Both tick the sun sea and and sand box, and Rhodes town in particular is packed with history.

Lindos however can be extremely busy with daytrippers during the day.
Nice though in the evening when they are all gone. Both beaches can also be very busy.

We went late September, it was OK. I can imagine it gets very busy July and August. I felt sorry for the poor old donkeys in Lindos
